A-Listed Apartment, Ravelston

A full modernisation of a category-A listed apartment.

Thanks to Pepsi Gaul at People and Properties, Rogan French Joinery, John Taylor Electrical Services, Burgh Glazing, MRM Building Contractors and Arek Painting and Decorating for their support.

The brief

Designed by Andrew Neil and Robert Hurd in 1935, this large apartment is part of a 1930s Art Deco development of residential buildings. They were among the first buildings to bring the international style to the Edinburgh.

We were asked to fully modernise this category-A listed apartment. We obtained Listed Building Consent, alongside planning approval and building warrant, and began actioning the client’s wish for an enlarged, contemporary kitchen with additional storage and a larger shower room.

The solution

We worked closely with Pepsi Gaul of People and Properties to execute this refurbishment. A new kitchen was installed, and the existing brick flue was removed to create more storage space. We also reinstated the original service hatch.

An existing and separate WC and shower were combined to create a much more spacious bathroom, ideally suited to the needs of the client.
